Dr. Susan Nelson is board-certified in internal medicine, geriatrics and hospice and palliative medicine. Over the last 30 years, she has advocated for systems to improve care for those with serious advanced illness. She serves as Medical Director of Post-Acute Care for the Ochsner Health Network and is System Chair of Palliative Medicine and Bioethics.

Dr. Nelson has provided support and assistance on launching the Louisiana Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program, or LA-GWEP. This program is committed to enhancing dementia-friendly integrated practice in Louisiana primary care settings; and by doing so, it aims to improve health and well being for Louisianans with ADRD diagnoses and their caregivers.
